Now, the Algarve tries to position itself at the avant-garde of renewable energy, and new wind and solar farms will go online at the end of the year. It contributes towards reductions in fossil fuel consumption and meets Portugal’s nationally determined contributions under the Paris climate accord. The region enjoys abundant sunlight and wind and, therefore, is ideal for the production of green energy; and communities are in full support. As more green initiatives are taking off, Algarve is leading by example to demonstrate sustainable development throughout Portugal.
